CTNA Drops Sponsorship of Continental Tire Bowl; Meineke Takes Over Sponsorship

Continental Tire North America (CTNA) has dropped its sponsorship of the Continental Tire Bowl, ending a three-year run as title sponsor after its contract with Raycom Sports ended Dec. 30, 2004. The Continental Tire Bowl, held in CTNA hometown of Charlotte, N.C., had been a showcase promotional event for the tiremaker. Meineke Car Care Centers, also based in Charlotte, signed on to take over title sponsorship of the event, which has been renamed the Meineke Car Care Bowl. Financial terms of the three-year contract were not disclosed.

Kentucky Parts Specialist Named NAPA/ASE Parts Specialist of the Year

NAPA Auto Parts and the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) have named Karen Karrer the 2005 NAPA/ASE Parts Specialist of the Year. Karrer, of Jeffersontown, Ky., is the sixth recipient of this national award, which offers special recognition to a parts professional of the NAPA system and industry.

NAPA and Orange County Choppers Team Up To Create Line of Co-Branded Products

NAPA Auto Parts has entered into a partnership with Orange County Choppers (OCC) and the Teutuls, Paul Sr., Paul Jr. and Mikey, designers and fabricators of world renowned custom motorcycles. NAPA and Orange County Choppers will partner on national promotions and will produce a line of co-branded products and merchandise. Additionally, the Teutuls will be appearing in NAPA’s print, radio and television advertising and making personal appearances in support of NAPA Auto Parts Stores and NAPA AutoCare Centers. NAPA will also capitalize on product placement opportunities within “American Chopper” and the Orange County Chopper shop.

Office Depot Becomes First Official Office Products Partner of NASCAR

Office Depot has entered into a multi-year agreement with the National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) to become the sport’s first-ever Official Office Products Partner, beginning with the 2005 race season. The relationship with NASCAR will be Office Depot’s primary national sponsorship platform this year and will be incorporated into the company’s new internal and external brand positioning campaign called Taking Care of Business – which launches this week.
