Bosch Teams Up with Microsoft to Explore Generative AI

The collaboration between Bosch and Microsoft looks to elevate the performance of automated driving functions

Bosch is delving into the realm of generative AI to enhance automated driving functions with the aim to bolster safety on roads. The company is eyeing a collaboration with Microsoft to leverage the power of generative AI in this pursuit.

Dr. Stefan Hartung, chairman of the Bosch board of management, highlighted the significance of this endeavor at the Bosch Connected World (BCW) AIoT industry conference in Berlin. He emphasized the potential of generative AI to enable vehicles to assess situations and react accordingly, thereby enhancing safety for all road users.

The collaboration between Bosch and Microsoft looks to elevate the performance of automated driving functions. Generative AI is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing convenience and safety within vehicles. Bosch’s expertise in vehicles and automotive-specific AI, coupled with its access to vehicle sensor data, will be instrumental in this initiative, the company said.

Generative AI holds the promise of revolutionizing the training of systems for automated driving. By analyzing vast amounts of data, generative AI can enable systems to make more nuanced assessments of road situations. For instance, it could distinguish between harmless objects like plastic bags and potential hazards like damaged vehicle parts, allowing for more precise responses from automated driving systems.

Bosch and Microsoft have previously collaborated on developing a universal software platform for connecting cars to the cloud. The two companies are now poised to identify new opportunities to integrate cutting-edge AI technology into their products and services, Bosch said.

Bosch is already leveraging generative AI in various areas, including manufacturing. Collaborations with partners like AWS, Google and Aleph Alpha are further enriching Bosch’s AI capabilities. Bosch Ventures’ investment in Aleph Alpha is yielding promising results, with the partnership contributing to advancements in AI-based speech recognition for automotive applications, the company said.

With over 120 specific applications currently in development, Bosch is harnessing AI to drive operational efficiency and customer satisfaction. The company’s commitment to professional development underscores its dedication to staying ahead in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
