WABCO To Supply IVECO Trucks With Newest Anti-Lock Braking System

This marks the first time in the commercial vehicle industry that these advanced WABCO safety technologies are being adopted together in series production.

BRUSSELS, Belgium – WABCO Holdings Inc., a Tier-One supplier to the commercial vehicle industry, has begun to supply IVECO with its newest generation of pneumatic anti-lock braking system (ABS version E8) integrated with its ESCsmart electronic stability control system, to equip IVECO’s new Eurocargo Euro 6 medium-duty on-road trucks. IVECO is a global manufacturer of commercial vehicles headquartered in Turin, Italy, and part of CNH Industrial Group. This marks the first time in the commercial vehicle industry that these advanced WABCO safety technologies are being adopted together in series production.

As announced in October 2011, WABCO entered into a multi-year supply agreement with IVECO to furnish these advanced technologies for series production in Europe starting in 2013.

WABCO’s newest generation of pneumatic ABS technology integrated with ESCsmart improves the vehicle’s directional stability and helps to protect against roll-over, skidding and spin-out during critical driving situations, the company states. Fleets and truck drivers benefit from optimal ESC performance on the road as it adapts to changing vehicle characteristics. Truck and bus manufacturers also benefit from ESCsmart as it eases vehicle assembly and end-of-line procedures in series production across a wide range of new vehicle types, according to WABCO.

“WABCO further demonstrates technology leadership as together with IVECO we bring advanced anti-lock braking systems integrated with smarter electronic stability technology to the market on IVECO’s new range of Eurocargo Euro 6 medium-duty trucks,” said Bodo Klein, WABCO vice president, vehicle dynamics and control systems. “IVECO can also respond faster to market needs by introducing new vehicle types in less time as we help to increase end-of-line manufacturing efficiency while improving vehicle safety.”

WABCO also supplies IVECO’s heavy-duty on-road trucks with ABS, ESC, electronic braking and electronically controlled air suspension systems, as well as air compressor technology, braking products, adaptive cruise control and vehicle control modules, among other vehicle safety and efficiency components.

In addition to pioneering ABS for commercial vehicles in 1981, WABCO introduced ESC in 2001. WABCO ESC systems help to mitigate more than 500,000 critical driving situations per year globally. WABCO says its newest generation of ABS with ESCsmart is available worldwide.
