Sears Canada is leaving the vehicle service business, in a move that affects about 775 employees as the retailer licenses three other companies to operate at 36 of its 49 auto centers. The rest of the service centers will be closed or converted to non-automotive purposes, the company announced yesterday.

ASA Launches New Government Affairs Web Site

The Automotive Service Association (ASA) has launched a new Web site to help communicate with federal and state representatives about issues impacting the automotive repair industry. According to a press release issued yesterday, the new Web site will help ASA and its members “mobilize support or dissent for issues directly impacting the automotive repair industry on both federal and state levels.”

AAIA Issues ‘Call to Action’

On Feb. 26, Sen. Lindsey Graham, (R-S.C.), introduced the Motor Vehicle Owners’ Right to Repair legislation (S. 2138) in the Senate. Similar to legislation in the House (H.R. 2735), the bill would ensure that motorists retain the right to choose how and by whom their vehicles are maintained and repaired. AAIA and AWDA are strongly urging individuals and businesses involved in the industry to go to the Legislative Action Center at www.aftermarket.org and send a letter urging their senator to join Graham in supporting S. 2138.
