Automechanika Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia’s leading regional trade fair for the automotive industry targeting trade visitors from the Association of Southeast Nations, is looking for the best mechanics in Malaysia to compete in the Mechanics Challenge.
The Mechanics Challenge will be held during the exhibition, which takes place March 23-25, 2017, at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The show is expected to welcome 300 worldwide exhibitors and 8,000 global buyers to the 7,465-square-meter (80,352-square-foot) exhibition space spanning four halls.
Organizers are urging independent workshop mechanics to throw their hat in the ring for a chance to compete in the challenge for the top independent mechanics in Malaysia. Eight teams will compete for the title of Automechanika Kuala Lumpur Mechanics Challenge 2017 champions.
Competitors have the opportunity to win prizes, improve their mechanical skills with all the latest tools and equipment and receive acclaim and recognition from industry peers. In addition, the competition allows participants to enrich their knowledge, exchange information and network.
Top teams will receive cash prizes, certificates awarded and be recognized by the Department of Skills Development (Jabatan Pembangunan Kemahiran, JPK) under the Malaysian Ministry of Human Resources. They will be presented with trophies for their abilities and hard work. The affiliated state associations where teams are based also will receive monetary prizes and trophies.
Teams are to consist of three mechanics and one reserve mechanic. Competition hopefuls must complete an online, multiple-choice exam on mechanical theories in January 2017. The eight teams with the highest scores will be selected for the final round, which is during the Automechanika Kuala Lumpur exhibition in March. During the final round, each team will diagnose car malfunctions and repair the defects with the highest quality workmanship possible within the allotted time. The highest score depends upon the best-performed repair and diagnostic skills. The winning team will be announced at the fairground during the Automechanika Kuala Lumpur show.
The grand champion of the last edition was LSLY. Speaking on behalf of the team was Tan Teck Liong, who said, “We are very happy to be recognized for our mechanical skills and techniques through participation in the competition and it’s good to have a chance to apply the latest tools and equipment.”
Sponsorship Opportunities Abound For Mechanics Challenge
Sponsoring the Mechanics Challenge provides an opportunity to showcase cutting-edge products and services to the thousands of buyers attending Automechanika Kuala Lumpur. In addition, the extensive global promotion for the event and the growing mechanic competition provide added exposure to all sponsors.
Recognizing this promising marketing endeavor is returning car sponsor Mazda. The vehicle manufacturer will be providing the cars on which the competitors will be performing diagnostics and repairs. Mazda’s Shamsuddin Amran, divisional manager, Aftersales, Bermaz Motor Trading Sdn Bhd, explained the company’s desire to continue to be the vehicle sponsor for the contest.
“This event is well-known among mechanics in Malaysia,” said Amran. “As a car sponsor for this event, it gives us a good opportunity to enhance the awareness of the Mazda brand as well as to share Mazda’s highly acclaimed SKYACTIV Technology with the automotive community. It is also the company’s corporate social responsibility to develop young talents to upgrade their skills competency to keep abreast with the latest vehicle technology.”
Other industry supporters of the Mechanics Challenge include: The Federation of Automobile Workshop Owners’ Association of Malaysia, The Federation of Engineering and Motor Parts Traders’ Association Malaysia and Persatuan Pengusaha Industri Industri Bengkel Malaysia.
