During a press conference yesterday May 13, 2020, the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, announced a plan to gradually re-open the economy and added essential activities starting on May 18 under the COVID-19 National Health Emergency. The new activities include construction, mining and transport manufacturing.
The reopening plan will be divided into three stages starting on May 18 with a third stage beginning on June 1 at the national level. On this day, a four-color coding system will be in place to tell people and businesses what activities are allowed. In addition, a protocol for the automotive industry is currently being developed.
The government of Mexico is expected to publish an official decree outlining a detailed plan in the coming days.
