The 66th IAA Commercial Vehicles trade show, taking place from Sept. 22-29 in Hannover, will place a firm focus on the megatrends of the future: digitization and electric mobility. As one of the world’s most important trade shows for transport, logistics and mobility, the event will offer three high-caliber congresses on these forward-looking topics at the “New Mobility World Logistics.” They will highlight not only commercial vehicles as such, but the complete digitization of the entire value chain.

IAA Commercial Vehicles - SignOn Monday, Sept. 26, under the title of “Change in the ecosystem through telematics – effects on the automotive aftermarket,” questions will be addressed about the influences that telematics offerings and the associated connectivity have on the business situation of transport companies and fleets. What can change, and what has changed already? Which challenges remain? The ecological effects also will be discussed. The symposium will be opened by VDA Managing Director Klaus Bräunig. The speakers will be Dr. Christian Wiehen, chief technology officer at WABCO Vehicle Control Systems; Günter Weber, vice president of marketing of Robert Bosch GmbH; Luc Billiet, president of parts and service and precision solutions and telematics at CNH Industrial; and Frank Tinschert, vice president of telematics and digital Solutions at MAN Truck & Bus AG.

On Sept. 28, top-level managers from the automotive industry, telecommunications and IT will meet for the car-IT congress, entitled “The digital revolution in the automotive industry,” at the IAA. This year it will concentrate on connected vehicles in their complexity. The topics will range from car-to-car communication, e-Mobility and IT, autonomous driving and driver assistance systems to intelligent navigation. Aspects of traffic management and mobility of the future also will be covered, as will the increasing importance of modern, app-supported infotainment systems for the connected car.

The organizers VDA and Bitkom have engaged renowned speakers, including Dieter May, senior vice president of digital services and business models at BMW Group; Bernhard Rohleder, CEO of Bitkom; Prof. Stefan Bratzel, director of the Center of Automotive Management; Dr. Daniela Gerd tom Markotten, head of digital solutions and services at Mercedes-Benz Trucks, Daimler AG; Dirk Ahlborn, CEO of Hyperloop Transportation Technologies; Dr. Jan Wehinger, senior manager at MHP (Porsche subsidiary); Oliver Bahns, senior vice president of connected car at Deutsche Telekom AG, T-Systems, Digital Division; Dr. Joachim Damasky, managing director of the VDA; and Johann Jungwirth, chief digital officer of the Volkswagen Group. The congress will be hosted by Thomas R. Koehler, writer and founder of CE21 – Gesellschaft für Kommunikationsberatung mbH.

The forum “Automated and connected driving: commercial vehicles as innovation leaders in automation and connectivity” on Sept. 29 will focus on the questions of how the growing volume of traffic can be optimized and how functional mobility can be guaranteed in the future. One option is the seamless linking of different means of transport. Real-time-based intelligent traffic control also will be a major instrument for optimizing traffic flow. Driver assistance systems, automated driving and the networking of vehicles and the infrastructure will all play a key role in mastering these tasks.

The forum will be opened by VDA President Matthias Wissmann and State Secretary Rainer Bomba from the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure. Other speakers will include Matthias Kässer, associate principal at McKinsey & Co. Inc.; Erik Wirsing, head of innovation at Schenker AG; and Prof. Barbara Lenz, head of the Institute of Transport Research at the German Aerospace Center (DLR).

There is no charge for attending the events “Change in the ecosystem through telematics – effects on the automotive aftermarket” and “Automated and connected driving: commercial vehicles as innovation leaders in automation and connectivity.” You can register online to attend, at iaa.de/en.
