The Power of One

Companies that are conscious of The Power Of One build a culture of high purpose and inspiration - a shift from profit maximization to purpose maximization.

e maximization.

The Power Of One is that one individual, parent, teacher, manager, professor or true friend who leaves a positive mark on our total being. Remember the teacher who took a sincere interest in you and believed in you? What a huge difference they made on you, which you carried over your entire life. What an impact! The Power Of One!

It is a given that most employees seek a purpose in life and at work. It is time for leaders to maximize the power of inspiration, which is finding a real purpose in work by being aware and sensitive to The Power Of One!

The Power Of One leader supports our efforts and talents each day to make a difference. They free us up to be us! “Stand up and be counted,” they cheer!

The essence of the Power Of One is this: “The power of one becomes the power of many” unleashing the people power. (Remember the Army marketing slogan: “Be All That You Can Be?”)

“The deepest principle of human nature is the craving to be appreciated” – William James, American philosopher and psychologist

People who want to improve the world are often quiet and unrecognized, but they have a critical sense of what is important and dedication that is unwavering. They often say, “If not me, then who?” The Power of One.

“It is a joy to be hidden but a disaster not be found.” – D. W. Winnicott, English psychoanalyst

The Power Of One gives us hope and lets us cope with the challenges of the day. It can find us all.

We are all seeking attention. In a moment of authentic attention (The Power Of One), we feel that we are deeply and truly understood in what we say and do and in who we really are. True leaders have the ability to touch us and transform us.

Find ways to notice the employee who always does a good job but goes unnoticed, the quiet person who never speaks up during a staff meeting. Take the time to find out why! Make a difference in his or her life!

“I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do.” – Edward Everett Hale, American author and historian

Risk all by asking for all. Yes, I am an eternal optimist! There is no limit to the power of the human spirit, in my opinion. When an organization becomes one with regard to its purpose, success will indeed occur.

Team members are valued as unique people (which we are) with valuable experiences, points of view, knowledge and opinions to contribute to the welfare of the organization. Clearly, differences are valued and celebrated.

The daily menu of The Power Of One consists of:
· Accepting and playing to people’s strengths
· Fostering happiness in the workplace
· Encouraging others to overcome the fear of rejection
· Assisting others to learn how to be free

Each time we impact a person’s life, it is exponential as it impacts that person’s circle of influence. The Power Of One. Experience the richness of helping people grow.

This is the question we all need to ask ourselves at the end of the each day: Did I make a difference in the lives of others today?

“I want every girl, every child to be educated.” – Malala Yousafzai (The 15-year-old Pakistani blogger and education activist who was shot in October.)

The Power Of One grants in us the right to believe in possibilities. John F. Kennedy said, “One man (person) can make a difference and every man should try.”

When we ponder the work of Gandhi, Edison, Lincoln, Mandella and Jobs, we start to understand The Power Of One.
