Gratitude for YOU

AMN Editor Maddie Winer sends a holiday message of thanks to the aftermarket professionals who have inspired her with their tenacity, knowledge and the care they put into all they do.

With the end of 2023 fast approaching, I can’t believe all that has happened in my life this year: I got married, I now have a dog and I changed jobs to become editor of this esteemed publication, continuing the legacy of my friend, Amy Antenora. I also attended my first full AAPEX Show and was embraced by so many of you who I have emailed or spoken with over the phone. I was privileged to also meet many new people who have graciously extended their expertise to the publication when we need it.

So, this column won’t talk about what I’m seeing regarding trends in the aftermarket. I’m not going to talk about the big news stories of 2023 and what to expect in 2024—you can see that online in our 2023 Year in Review video series. Today, I wanted to thank all of you for making this industry such a vibrant, fascinating and, dare I say it, FUN, industry to work in and cover.

During the opening reception at AAPEX this year, I took a moment to stand in the middle of the crowd and take it all in. Around me, people were meeting each other and shaking hands, old friends and colleagues embraced each other, and excitement for Industry Week was palpable. So many people I met exuded passion for what they do.

Take Randy Shambro for instance– Counterman magazine’s Counter Professional of the Year, presented by WIX Filters. Be sure to check out the incredible story my colleague, Josh Cable, wrote about Randy and his passion for automotive, and, more importantly, for helping his customers. I met Randy during Industry Week this year, and he is the most down-to-earth, gracious guy. You would never know the extra mile he goes for customers outside of work hours— he doesn’t talk about it. He just does it because he loves the people he serves and truly enjoys his job.

There are many Randy Shambros out in the automotive aftermarket today. I’ve met them and have been inspired by their tenacity, knowledge and the care they put into all they do. The holiday season is all about gratitude, and I am truly thankful for being a part of this industry. Here’s to a great 2024!

Twenty years. That’s more than 5,000 business days, roughly 15 AAPEX shows (for me, at least), more than 400 executive interviews and who knows how many article posts.

That’s what my time here at Babcox Media, as Editor of aftermarketNews, looks like in black and white numbers. But that’s not the real measure of what I’ve accumulated over 20 years’ time.
