Car Care Council Women’s Board Announces Winners of the Automotive Communications Awards
The Car Care Council Women’s Board (WB) has announced the winners of the new Automotive Communications Awards (ACA). The awards were presented during the Women’s Board reception on Tuesday, Nov. 2 in Las Vegas, during AAPEX. The Automotive Communications Awards recognize companies/agencies that provide automotive information through outstanding advertising, marketing and PR efforts. The business-to-consumer awards have 14 categories for entry targeted to women, including car care clinics and direct mail piece or campaign/newsletter. The business-to-business awards consist of 21 categories with such options as logo design and special promotions and promotional events/trade show.

Scott Meyer, retired president of Ken-Tool in Akron, Ohio, and past chairman of the Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association’s (MEMA) , was presented the Triangle Award, MEMA’s highest honor, last night during the association’s Executive Reception in Las Vegas.
Pronto Celebrates Recent Accomplishments, Announces New Programs at Fall Owner’s Conference
The National Pronto Association, a member-owned and member-directed group of automotive warehouse distributors, recently held its Fall Owner’s Conference in Orlando, Fla. Highlights of the conference included an opening keynote address from Jim Macingvale, the owner of Gallery Furniture, in Houston, Texas. Macingvale, author of “Always Think Big,” shared the business philosophies, strategies and tactics that helped him grow his company into the nation’s largest single location furniture retailer.
Overseas Automotive Council Selects Three New Board Members
Three new members have been elected to the Overseas Automotive Council (OAC) Board of Directors for three-year terms of office. OAC is the international aftermarket division of MEMA. The council promotes the sale in foreign markets of automotive products manufactured in North America.
MEMA Elects New Chairman and Officers; Delphi’s Alan Dawes to Serve as 2004-2005 MEMA Chairman
Alan Dawes, vice chairman and CFO of Delphi Corp., has been elected 2004-2005 chairman of the Motor and Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA) Board of Directors. Outgoing MEMA Chairman Scott Meyer, who stepped down as president of Ken-Tool, was named MEMA president until a permanent president and CEO is found. As a result, Ronald Cutler, TRW Automotive, will continue to serve on the board as past chairman.
Automotive Communications Council Elects Officers and Board
The Automotive Communications Council (ACC) elected new officers and members to its board of governors at its recent conference in Hollywood, Fla. Nearly 40 members attended the conference held at the Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa near Miami Beach. Attendees heard presentations on a range of topics including ad effectiveness and strategic aftermarket branding.
Three More Speakers Added to Manufacturers’ Rep Conference
Three more manufacturers have agreed to participate on the Town Hall Panel taking place at the Manufacturers’ Rep Conference on May 16-17 in Chicago, Ill. Larry Easterlin of Technical Chemical Co., Mike Mayer of Master Lock Co.; and Charlie Walker from Gates Rubber/Stant will discuss pressing issues, along with Bill Lorenz from Siskel Sales Co. and Bob Knight from PSKB Inc.
Comergent Technologies Acquires Profile Systems, Inc.
Comergent Technologies, a leading provider of demand chain management applications, has acquired Profile Systems, a developer of product information (PIM) and inventory management companies for business-to-business e-business. Under the terms of the agreement, Comergent Technologies has acquired all the outstanding Profile Systems shares and technology. Profile Systems employees have been retained in the West Springfield, Mass., office.
