LAS VEGAS — Scott Meyer, retired president of Ken-Tool in Akron, Ohio, and past chairman of the Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association’s (MEMA) , was presented the Triangle Award, MEMA’s highest honor, last night during the association’s Executive Reception in Las Vegas.
In addition to his more than 30 years in the tool industry, Meyer has been a member of MEMA’s board of directors for the past 18 years. He also served as recent interim president of the organization, prior to naming Bob McKenna to the post.
“Scott has been truly unselfish with the time he has given to the industry. It’s people like Scott who help keep our industry on the right track,” said MEMA Chairman Alan Dawes, vice chairman and CFO of Delphi Corp., Troy, Mich.
“For the past two years, Scott also has been instrumental in enhancing MEMA’s value to our members during a critical time for the association and for the industry,” he said. “In addition to being chairman, Scott stepped up and served as interim president during a change in leadership and the transition was seamless,” Dawes added.
Meyer assumed the duties of interim president of MEMA in June 2004, and served in that capacity until Bob McKenna was named the new president in October. He was the association’s 2003-2004 chairman.
Meyer served as president, CEO and director of Ken-Tool since 1995, and stepped down from day-to-day activities in June. He joined Ken-Tool in 1969 in an entry-level position in sales and manufacturing planning. Meyer served in the U.S. Army from 1970 to 1973, and then returned to Ken-Tool. Meyer was an executive vice president of Ken-Tool from 1982 to 1987, and was vice president and general manager of its parent company, Warren Automotive Group, during the same period. He became Ken-Tool’s vice president and general manager in 1987 when the company was a division of Warren Tool Corp.
In addition to his service as MEMA board chairman and interim president, Meyer is a past advisory board member of Management Information Services Group (MISG), a commercial division of MEMA. He is a past director of the MEMA Automotive President’s Council and past member of the Joint Management Operating Committee of The University of the Aftermarket. Meyer also served as chairman of the Hand Tools Institute Manufacturing Technology Committee. Meyer has been active as a member of the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA) Education Committee, the Automotive Sales Council and the American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS).
Other recent Triangle Award winners include Ron Cutler, vice president, sales and marketing, TRW Automotive, in 2003; the late Joe Magliochetti, chairman and CEO of Dana Corp., in 2002; Northwood University in 2001; Robert Miller, president emeritus of MEMA, in 2000; Tom Gallagher of Genuine Parts Co., Atlanta, Ga., and Bill Long of Dana Corp., in 1999; Robert H. Raff, MAAP, in 1998 for his AWDA University work; L. Gene Stohler of Masco Tech Inc. in 1997; Frederick J. Mancheski of Echlin Inc. in 1996; John M. Riess of BREED Technologies Inc. in 1994 (then of The Gates Rubber Co.); Larry McCurdy (then of Moog Automotive) in 1993; and Jack Reilly (then of Tenneco Automotive) in 1992. No award was presented in 1995.
