Hi-Tech Engine Components has been selected as a program vendor to AAM/Parts Pro by a unanimous vote of its members. According to Tim Odom, president of AAM/Parts Pro, having access to Hi-Tech’s arsenal of engine kits for more than 15,000 applications was just one of many reasons for the decision.

Douglas Battery has been selected as a recipient of Spartan Motors’ “SPAR STAR” supplier performance award. The award is presented to suppliers who met or exceeded Spartan’s standards in product performance, on-time delivery, quality, value, service and customer care. With nearly 300 suppliers in the running, Douglas Battery, was one of only fifteen who qualified to receive the award.

Champion Appoints a New President

John Evans, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Champion Laboratories, has been named president of the Albion, Ill.-based automotive parts manufacturer. Evans, a native of Vincennes, Ind., has been with Champion Laboratories for 20 years. He replaces Tom Mowatt, who has taken retirement.

Jerry Mosingo Named COO of ASC Incorporated

ASC Inc., a full-service specialty-vehicle development partner for automotive manufacturers, has named Jerry Mosingo COO, effective immediately. He replaces Scott Koepke, who has been named COO of ASC-Yachiyo Manufacturing Ltd. (AYM), an ASC joint venture company in Columbus, Ohio. Both executives will report to ASC’s president and CEO, Paul Wilbur. Mosingo’s COO assignment is expected to last through 2004.

Delphi Achieves Record $3.2 Billion in Commercial Vehicle Business Bookings in ’03

Delphi achieved a record $3.2 billion in new commercial vehicle business bookings during 2003, according to company officials. Much of the new business is with Delphi’s engine management systems, along with audio, safety, climate control and electrical/electronic distribution systems, according to Maggart. While every major region saw a business increase during the year, a majority of the growth came from Asia-Pacific and Europe.

More Details on the Future of Honeywell’s Friction Materials Business

Yesterday, Honeywell announced that it had terminated discussions with Federal Mogul regarding the possible sale of its friction materials business, which manufactures and markets the well-known aftermarket brand Bendix. After several months of negotiations, the parties were unable to agree on terms of a deal. Now Honeywell has reported that the friction materials division will remain part of Honeywell and will become closely aligned with the company’s business initiatives and operating plan. According to Joe Puishys, president of Honeywell friction materials, the company is in the process of making investments in both the aftermarket and OE segments of the business.

Four Seasons, a division of Standard Motor Products, has announced its sponsorship of “Crank it UP!” — the 24th annual Convention and Trade Show of the Mobile Air Conditioning Society (MACS) Worldwide. The convention takes place January 22-24 at the Caribe Royale All-Suite Resort in Orlando, Fla. Sanden International has announced its gold sponsorship of the event, bringing drag racing legend Big Daddy Don Garlits to the convention to present the keynote speech during a luncheon on Saturday, January 24th at noon. ATMC Spring Conference to Focus on “Clean Diesel”

The Automotive Training Managers Council (ATMC) will hold its 2004 Spring Conference and Business Meeting on April 18-20 at the Holiday Inn Fairlane-Dearborn in Detroit, Mich. The conference will focus on heavy-duty/diesel emissions and new technologies. Numerous automotive presentations on clean diesels, new emissions-related systems and their impact on the service technician will be on the agenda.
