Akebono Strengthens Brake R&D Leadership With Second Chassis Noise Dynometer

Akebono Corporation, North America’s leading supplier of advanced brake technology, today announced the installation of a second full chassis noise dynamometer at its research and development technical center in Farmington Hills, Mich. This new piece of testing equipment positions Akebono as one of the only companies in the automotive industry with two such testing machines, further strengthening its industry-leading brake noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) performance capabilities.

Dana and Bendix Form Joint Venture

Dana Corp. and Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC, a member of the Knorr-Bremse Group, have formed a North American joint venture focusing on commercial vehicle foundation brake components and technologies. The joint venture, which is expected to close on June 30, will operate under the name Bendix Spicer Foundation Brake LLC. Completion of the transaction is subject to final corporate approvals at both companies.

ArvinMeritor and DaimlerChrysler Subsidiary Sign Memorandum of Understanding

ArvinMeritor has signed a memorandum of understanding with DaimlerChrysler subsidiary Axle Alliance Co. (AAC), proposing that ArvinMeritor become the turnkey supplier in providing heavy-duty tandem rear drive axles to AAC, ultimately for Freightliner’s North American Class 8 truck assembly operations.While the proposal is still tentative, if accepted, ArvinMeritor will partner with AAC on the design, development and assembly of heavy-duty axles from ArvinMeritor facilities in York, S.C., Monterrey, Mexico, and Asheville, N.C.

Bendix to Add More Than 30 New Jobs at Ohio Headquarters

Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC, said it will add more than 30 engineers, information technology specialists and supply chain professionals to support its staff. The company said surging demand for its medium- and heavy-duty truck products has resulted in the need for additional staff. Bendix currently employs 1,800 in North America, including 450 at its Elyria, Ohio, headquarters.

ArvinMeritor Establishes Reman Facility in Plainfield, Ind.

ArvinMeritor Inc. Commercial Vehicle Aftermarket (CVA) group has established new remanufacturing processes at its U.S. remanufacturing facility to create heavy-duty reman aftermarket parts. The QS-9000 certified facility supplies parts under both Meritor and Euclid brand names.
