ASE, AYES, SkillsUSA to Offer Co-Branded Exams

The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), Automotive Youth Educational Systems (AYES) and Skills USA have announced an agreement to provide co-branded end of program exams for students in secondary and post-secondary automotive technology programs. The new exams will merge the well-known NATEF End-of-Program tests into a joint offering from the three groups.

ALLDATA Supports SkillsUSA

ALLDATA LLC provided resources and judging for the 2007 SkillsUSA Automotive Service Technology National Championships. The competition was held on June 25-29 in Kansas City, MO. ALLDATA provides manufacturers’ service and repair information, shop management software and customer relations tools for the automotive repair and collision industries. This is the eighth year that the company has been involved with the regional, state or national SkillsUSA competitions.

PPG Donates $10,000 to SkillsUSA

PPG Automotive Refinish has donated $10,000 to SkillsUSA, a national non-profit organization serving teachers, high school and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations. Formerly known as Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (VICA), the organization serves as a link between education and industry, helping students to excel in their chosen fields and qualify for jobs in the real world. More than 284,000 students and instructors join SkillsUSA annually.

PPG’s Rick Fischer Named PA SkillsUSA Business and Industry Leader of the Year

Rick Fischer, a territory manager for PPG Automotive Refinish, has received the 2006 Pennsylvania SkillsUSA Business and Industry Leader Award for his efforts on behalf of the Auto Collision Repair Technology shop at Crawford County Area Vocational Technical School (AVTS) in Meadville, PA. In addition to the award he received from SkillsUSA, Fischer also received a citation from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for Industry Leadership and his contributions to the school.

AutoZone, Inc. has announced the second annual “AutoZone Future Technician Scholarship” winners. The $10,000 automotive industry-focused scholarship was divided among the gold, silver and bronze medal winners of the SkillsUSA National Championship Automotive Service Technology competition held in Kansas City, MO on June 23, 2005.

John Hinesley, a long-time advocate of career and technical education and ArvinMeritor’s Western Area Director-North American Field Operations for Commercial Vehicle Systems, has been named president of the national board of directors of SkillsUSA. He will preside over the 15-member SkillsUSA board of directors, for the non-profit corporation.
