CHADDS FORD, PA — Bergwall Productions, a producer and distributor of automotive training materials, is showing its support of the SkillsUSA program with the donation of $1.7 million in online automotive training courses.
SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry, working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. Students participating in the SkillsUSA contest demonstrate their ability to perform jobs and skills based on the task list outlined by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) and the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF). Workstations consist of on-vehicle, simulations, bench and component testing, as well as, a written test. Contestants are judged on technical competency, accuracy, quality, safety and ability to follow directions.
Bergwall will award student winners in all 50 states for the Automotive Service Technology category. Bergwall’s award will go to the top three state high school student finalists as well as the top three state college finalists, in each state. Each of the 300 student finalists will receive one full year of unlimited access to Bergwall’s complete line of 29 online courses valued at about $5,800 per student.
According to Eric Bergwall, president of Bergwall Productions, all of the company’s online courses have been written by ASE Certified Master Technicians. Available Online Courses include: Shop Safety, Basic Shop Math (June 2005) Generic OBD-II, OBD-II Ford, OBD-II Chrysler, OBD-II GM, Five-Gas Analysis, Customer Service and Installing an EFI System. In addition, Bergwall’s Practical Shop Skills series including Engines, Auto Trans, Drivetrain, Undercar Systems, Brake Systems, Starting, Charging and Electrical, Climate Control, Drivability and Advanced Drivability.
“While our online courses can certainly be used for group instruction, the real value is in the self-paced individual instruction,” said Bergwall. “These online courses are available from any Internet connected computer 24/7. In other words, these brand new online courses are accessible in the auto shop, the media center, the school library, at home, at a friend’s house or even at the public library. The self-instruction application of these online courses is particularly important. They actually help to build a sense of accomplishment.“
