Chief Marks 30th Anniversary Of SkillsUSA Competition Sponsorship

The multi-day collision competition covers all aspects of collision repair. Contestants take written tests and go through an application for work process where they present a resume and have an interview with a volunteer judge. In the structural analysis segment of the competition, students use three types of measuring devices – centerline gauges, mechanical and computerized systems – to identify damage in the test vehicles. The overall appearance of the finished product, speed and proper safety practices are all part of the contest.

Chief will supply most of the structural repair equipment for the Collision Repair Technology (CRT) event, including a frame rack, computerized measuring system and damage simulators. Chief also developed the written structural repair test to be administered during the contest. The winning CRT student will receive free registration for a future Chief University training class, and all participants will receive a Chief-branded flashlight.

This year’s recipients are Jessica Crowley, who placed third in the automotive refinishing technology category, and Kristina Shaver, who is the high scorer in the collision repair technology category. The WIN scholarship includes airfare, lodging and associated expenses, as well as a full access NACE Expo Pass provided by the Automotive Management Institute (AMI) and ASA. In addition, Crowley and Shaver will be honored at the ASA-sponsored industry awards ceremony in October. They also will receive 2012 WIN memberships.
