Aftermarket Auto Parts Alliance Holds Annual Winter Meeting in Sunny Florida

The shareholders of Aftermarket Auto Parts Alliance, Inc. gathered in Boca Raton, FL, for the group’s annual winter meeting held Dec. 2-6. Each shareholder of the Alliance was represented. The meeting is a culmination of the past year’s efforts of Auto Value/Bumper to Bumper parts stores and certified service centers. Reports and breakout meetings focusing on marketing, product and education were reviewed. New vendors were reviewed and approved and the 2007 marketing strategy was presented.

Auto Value/Bumper to Bumper Launches National Charity Program

A new nationwide program that helps victims of domestic violence and abuse gain their freedom through the donation of refurbished cars has been launched by Auto Value/Bumper to Bumper. This unprecedented vehicle gift program is sponsored by the warehouses, parts stores and certified service centers flying the Auto Value/Bumper to Bumper flags. Aftermarket Auto Parts Alliance, parent company of Auto Value and Bumper to Bumper, announced the new program yesterday at AAPEX.

Ford to Sell or Close Ex-Visteon Plants

 The plan for job cuts and plant closings announced by Ford Motor Co. on Friday includes a 2008 deadline for selling off or closing 14 plants that the automaker took over last year as part of a bailout of parts supplier Visteon Corp. In October, Ford took back 17 plants from Visteon, which Ford spun off in 2000. The deal to bring Visteon back was aimed at making the supplier profitable and ensuring a stable flow of parts to the automaker. Ford created a subsidiary, Automotive Components Holdings LLC, for the plants and for six non-manufacturing facilities that it also took back.

Tenneco Expands China Operations

Tenneco has announced plans to expand its operations in China with investment in both manufacturing and engineering facilities. The company will open a wholly-owned elastomer manufacturing facility in Suzhou, China, and a joint venture emission control engineering center in Shanghai. The company has also reached an agreement to increase its ownership share to 65 percent in its Beijing ride control joint venture.

WIX Filters Names Grand Prize Winners in First WIX Filters Lap Leader Award Contest

WIX brand filters has named the winners of its first-ever WIX Filters Lap Leader Award contest. The WIX Filters Lap Leader Award contest enables fans to be a part of the action. The WIX Filters Lap Leader Award is presented to the driver who leads the most laps during each race in NASCAR’s NEXTEL Cup, Busch and Craftsman Truck racing series. The online contest encourages fans to use their NASCAR knowledge in a weekly competition to predict which drivers will win the WIX Filters Lap Leader Award in each race. Fans who participate in the online contest compete for prizes including an all-expense-paid trip to Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup event.

The Car Care Council Women’s Board (WB) has announced the winners of the new Automotive Communications Awards (ACA). The awards were presented during the Women’s Board reception on Tuesday, Nov. 2 in Las Vegas, during AAPEX. The Automotive Communications Awards recognize companies/agencies that provide automotive information through outstanding advertising, marketing and PR efforts. The business-to-consumer awards have 14 categories for entry targeted to women, including car care clinics and direct mail piece or campaign/newsletter. The business-to-business awards consist of 21 categories with such options as logo design and special promotions and promotional events/trade show.
