Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC, Dayton Parts, LLC (DP, LLC), Haldex and SKF have banded together to create a new recognition for fleet technicians. The four companies announced they are now accepting applications for the 2006 Technician of the Year Award program. The companies created the program in 2005 to recognize a fleet’s “superstar” technician, who exemplifies the best qualities of the profession, including his/her technical and mechanical experience, service specialties and overall contributions to the industry.

Al Stecklein of Gates Elected 2006-2007 MEMA Chairman

Alfred “Al” Stecklein, group president, Worldwide Aftermarket Division of Gates Corp. in Denver, CO, has been elected 2006-2007 chairman of the Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA) Board of Directors. Stecklein was named to his current position at Gates in September 2000. As group president of Stecklein is responsible for directing the sales, marketing and logistics/distribution of all the automotive aftermarket products manufactured by Gates worldwide, as well as other Tomkins automotive companies.

Todd Manson of Webb Wheel Products Inc. and Randy Petresh of Haldex Brake Systems Inc. were recently featured in a segment about counterfeit heavy-duty parts for American Public Media’s “MarketPlace” program on National Public Radio (NPR). The program, taped at the recent Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, KY, presents the significant safety hazards of fake parts, and the costs in money and resources for companies to protect their products from counterfeiters. Both companies are members of the Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association Brand Protection Council.

Pete Joy Elected Chairman of Heavy Duty Aftermarket Council

The Heavy Duty Manufacturers Association (HDMA) has formed its new Heavy Duty Aftermarket Council (HDAMC) and elected Robert “Pete” Joy, president of Haldex Commercial Vehicle Systems, North American Sales Division, as chairman at the group’s inaugural meeting on Jan. 11 in Chicago.
