Al Stecklein of Gates Elected 2006-2007 MEMA Chairman

Alfred “Al” Stecklein, group president, Worldwide Aftermarket Division of Gates Corp. in Denver, CO, has been elected 2006-2007 chairman of the Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA) Board of Directors. Stecklein was named to his current position at Gates in September 2000. As group president of Stecklein is responsible for directing the sales, marketing and logistics/distribution of all the automotive aftermarket products manufactured by Gates worldwide, as well as other Tomkins automotive companies.

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC — Alfred “Al” Stecklein, group president, Worldwide Aftermarket Division of Gates Corp. in Denver, CO, has been elected 2006-2007 chairman of the Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA) Board of Directors.

Stecklein was named to his current position at Gates in September 2000. As group president of Stecklein is responsible for directing the sales, marketing and logistics/distribution of all the automotive aftermarket products manufactured by Gates worldwide, as well as other Tomkins automotive companies.

He began his career at Gates in 1970 as a product development engineer. During his 36 years with the company, he has held a number of assignments, including president of Europe, president of Asia Pacific/Latin America and president of North America.

Stecklein is active in many other industry associations, and currently serves on the board of the Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA) in addition to his MEMA involvement. He formerly served on the Board of Advisors for the World Trade Center.

He received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Kansas State University in 1969, and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Colorado at Denver in 1979. He has served on the board of directors for the University of Colorado at Denver School of Business for several years.

Stecklein is a native of Ness City, KS; he and his wife Mary have two children.
