New Color Management System Aims to Boost Productivity of Paint Shops

BASF’s Web-enabled SmartTrak II inventory and color management system is now available as a multi-language tool, enabling paint technicians around the world to track costs, manage their inventories and access BASF’s global color formulas.

SOUTHFIELD, MI — BASF’s Web-enabled SmartTrak II inventory and color management system is now available as a multi-language tool, enabling paint technicians around the world to track costs, manage their inventories and access BASF’s global color formulas.

BASF’s updated program features easy-to-follow instructions in 25 languages for connecting a variety of commonly used paint scales to a computer and to the SmartTrak II global database of formulas.

“This is an incredible new business solution for the refinish industry around the world,” said Ken Marshall, global manager for BASF’s customer relationship management applications group. “For the first time, refinish shops and paint technicians in dozens of countries on six continents can use a common electronic tool for access to BASF’s extensive global database of color formulas. With this software, painters almost anywhere in the world can now find the right formula to match just about any car color they’re likely to encounter-and many of them can work with the program in their own language. This is a tremendous step forward in helping our customers around the globe be successful, not just in English-speaking regions.”

According to Marshall, the new software, which includes tutorials and reference material in 25 languages, is designed to operate on the common versions of the Microsoft operating systems found around the globe. Interfaces for connecting industry paint scales to a PC are integrated in the software.
