WALLED LAKE, Mich. Matrix System Automotive Finishes, a division of Quest Specialty Coatings, is celebrating a significant milestone this year. The manufacturer of high-quality paints, primers, hardeners, clearcoats and reducers, has marked 30 years in the automotive paint industry. To commemorate this milestone, Matrix System has announced plans to reveal a throwback label and new commemorative logo.
The company was established in Walled Lake, Mich., in 1983 by Kent Gardner, who grew the company to become a successful manufacturer of high-quality clear coats, primers, hardeners and reducers. By 1988, Gardner was selling paint hardeners to more than 100 Maaco body shops. Before long, he decided to sell his highly profitable Maaco shops and devote himself full-time to running his business, Matrix System. Gardner had a strong feeling there were other body shops that would love to save money on high-quality paint materials if they could, and his gut instinct paid off.
Having started in a body shop, Matrix System today has nearly 125 employees and more than 400 distributors. Matrix System continues to be a leading supplier to the PBE market, widely known for its innovative basecoat platforms and successful clear coat products. Additionally, Matrix System offers a full complement of companion products to complete the repair or restoration at hand.
David Brunori, executive vice president, commented, “We have known for over three decades that the industry demanded a lower-cost option versus the major paint companies and we were right! In celebration of our 30 years, we have designed a ‘throwback’ label for one of our longest-standing clear coats MS-20 High Performance Urethane Clearcoat. The label resembles one of the very first labels we marketed the “Space Matrix” from the ’80s.
“This is a milestone that we couldn’t have reached without the strong support of our distributors, body shops or employees. We want to send a huge ‘thank you’ to everyone for making us a trusted part of their lives all these years,” said Brunori.
