MAHLE Engine Builder Showdown to Be Featured Sunday on

From aftermarketNews Staff & Wire Reports

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The 2008 MAHLE Engine Builder Showdown, recently held at the NASCAR Technical Institute in Mooresville, N.C., will be featured in an upcoming episode of “Two Guys Garage,” on SPEED, a cable station dedicated to motorsports. The episode covers the Showdown in the final stages of the competition, and will premiere on Sunday, Sept. 28, at 2 p.m. (EST).

The MAHLE Engine Builder Showdown is a tiered, four-round competition designed to recognize the talents of professional engine builders who assemble engines for NASCAR teams. Grouped into teams of two, the engine builders race against the clock – and their competitors – to build and successfully start a Sprint Cup 357-cubic inch Ford engine.

“Viewers of the episode will not only have the opportunity to witness a new Showdown record, but will also get to see an exciting Showdown between the ‘Two Guys’ Sam and Bryan,” said Ted Hughes, team leader – program development for MAHLE Clevite. “We’re very excited to have coverage of the Showdown on SPEED Channel.”

Last year, Dennis Borem and Darrel Hoffman of Pro Motor Engines broke the all-time Showdown record with an engine-build time of 16:25. And this year, they did it again, beating their own Showdown record, with an engine-build time of 15 minutes and 59 seconds. The two-time winners defeated runners-up Mike Kasch and Jim Snyder of Roush Yates Racing, and walked away with the Randy Dorton Memorial trophy, and a cash prize of $26,000.

In addition to the Sept. 28 airing, the “Two Guys Garage” episode showcasing the 2008 MAHLE Engine Builder Showdown is scheduled to air five times later this year:

• Wednesday, Oct. 1, at 3 p.m. (EST)

• Saturday, Oct. 4, at 10:30 a.m. (EST)

• Sunday, Nov. 9, at 9 a.m. (EST)

• Wednesday, Nov. 12, at 3 p.m. (EST)

• Saturday, Nov. 15, at 10:30 a.m. (EST)

Viewers should check local listings for exact time and channel in their area. Also, note that SPEED may change airdates or times due to live events, which preempt taped programming.
