ROCHESTER, N.Y. Hahn Automotive Warehouse will celebrate its 50th year in business in Rochester, N.Y., this summer. More than just an auto parts distribution company, it is also the story about the true success of an Israeli immigrant who fulfilled the American dream. Basing his business principles on his life principles and working extremely hard for what he wanted, Michael Futerman completed a true rags to riches story.
Purchased in 1958 by Michael Futerman, Hahn Automotive Warehouse, Inc. was known as Hahn Tire & Battery. It was a single store business stationed on St. Paul Street in downtown Rochester. In 1965, the business moved to the corner of Franklin and Andrews Street and moved again in 1967 to Canal Street, both times to accommodate growth. Today, the business is headquartered on West Main Street with the main office connected to one of its warehouses.
Mike Futerman’s passing in 1999 was a great loss to the company, but his legacy lives on. His son, Eli Futerman, and son in-law, Danny Chessin, have continued to grow the company following the basic principles on which Mike founded the company. Eli Futerman, who joined the company in 1980, and Chessin, who joined in 1988, work as hard as ever to help the company reach its full potential.
Today, Hahn Automotive Warehouse has nine full service warehouses and 22 pick-up warehouses. They distribute automotive hard parts within their 15-state geographical reach from the Midwest through the Northeast and down to the Mid-Atlantic states. In addition, the company owns the RAAC accessory warehouse in Batavia, N.Y., which fills in products that complement the hard parts. On the retail side, the company owns 80 Advantage Auto stores and Genuine Auto Parts stores that sell parts to both the professional service dealer and the do-it-yourselfer.
In addition, the company operates nine Nu-Way Auto Parts locations that also deal directly with the professional service dealer and the do-it-yourselfer. This group operates in Western New York and Northeast Pennsylvania and is an original equipment distribution partner of General Motors and Ford Motor Co. In October 2007, Hahn purchased Prime Automotive Parts Co., Inc.; a similar auto parts warehouse distributing company based out of Glendale, N.Y. With 21 locations in the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, the Prime acquisition serves to show the growth and strength of Hahn over its 50 years of existence.
