Gilbarco Veeder-Root Announces Turnkey EV Charging Business

The recharging ecosystem is designed specifically for the fuel retail industry.

Gilbarco Veeder-Root has launched Konect, an electric vehicle recharging ecosystem for the fuel retail industry. Introduced at the UNITI expo, Konect offers a suite of EV charging hardware and software solutions for businesses looking to install their own EV charging infrastructure.

Konect provides support, including consultancy, installation, maintenance and customer service, the company said in a recent press release. It is a flexible, streamlined solution that allows customers to future-proof their facilities without distracting from their core business. The centerpiece of the solution is an EV charging system co-developed with global EV charging technology provider SK Signet Inc.

Designed for integration with Gilbarco Veeder-Root’s existing fueling, payment, and service solutions, Konect enables new profit opportunities for fuel retailers and helps them accelerate the transition to electric mobility. Konect supports and manages every step of the EV charging journey, including site selection, funding options, hardware and software solutions, and integration with on-site energy storage, loyalty schemes, and point-of-sale equipment, the company noted.

The strategic alliance with SK Signet has been developed to deliver the EV charger for fuel retailers’ needs. The new system uses a dispenser design, deployable across distributed and all-in-one charging applications. The dispenser features payment, media, and loyalty technology from Gilbarco Veeder-Root, and SK Signet’s DC fast-charging infrastructure.

“The gap in readily available and accessible EV charging infrastructure is a major barrier to the broad adoption of electric vehicles,” said Jung-ho Shin, CEO of SK Signet Inc. “By integrating SK Signet’s fast chargers into the Konect platform, we will meet the needs of current and future EV drivers by providing more convenient, seamless, and reliable charging solutions.”

The charging system is defined by a hard-wearing and ergonomic design, with ease of use and maintenance at its core, the company said. A high-brightness LCD touchscreen features an intuitive user interface, complemented by an OTA-updatable FlexPay 6 ‘Invenco by GVR’ card reader for payment. The 17-foot charging cable provides flexibility in use, and an optional safety switch allows users to stop charging if required, the company explained.

The intelligent charging infrastructure is part of a broader, integrated ecosystem. Based on a cloud-based platform, the network connects multiple on-site services, from point-of-sale payment and loyalty systems to localized energy management and off-grid charging solutions. The ecosystem can also be adapted for fleet operators, enabling businesses to maximize operational efficiency and profitability, Gilbarco Veeder-Root said.

SK Signet, based in Seoul, will manufacture the EV charging equipment for Konect in the U.S. and Korea.
