GRI Breaks Ground On New Mixing Plant In Sri Lanka

GRIs new mixing plant will have the capacity to increase GRIs specialty tire production output by 100 tons a day in the first phases of the project. With the successful completion of the final phase of this project, the output is expected to reach 200 tons a day.

GRI laid the foundation for a new mixing plant on July 18 in Sri Lanka. The journey of GRI began in 2002, with the vision “to be a leading specialty tire producer in the world.”

Over the past 17 years, GRI has established new customers, and grown its business rapidly across the world.

The Board of Investment of Sri Lanka provided GRI with several acres of industrial land in the Mirigama Export Processing Zone (MEPZ) and GRI initiated its next strategic move to further develop and diversify its roots in the vibrant Specialty Tire Industry by utilizing this land to build a new mixing plant that will support GRIs future expansion as well as enhance Sri Lanka’s exports.

At the groundbreaking, Prabhash Subasinghe, managing director GRI, commented, “Today, I see in front of me, a dream being realized, in what is to be one of the largest mixing plant in Sri Lanka, that will wholeheartedly support our Specialty Tire Manufacturing Facility, I can humbly say, with confidence and courage we shall triumph.”

GRIs new mixing plant will have the capacity to increase GRIs specialty tire production output by 100 tons a day in the first phases of the project. With the successful completion of the final phase of this project, the output is expected to reach 200 tons a day.

The plant will be equipped with the latest automatic material weighing equipment, feeding systems and high-capacity Banbury mixers. Output from this mixing plant will be of consistently high-quality by procuring all machinery from global leaders, said GRI.

“GRI will increase its output via the effective utilization of leading-edge and modernistic manufacturing units, ensuring that quality is at the highest level,” said Dr. Mahesha Ranasoma, CEO of GRI.

To protect the environment, specifically the surrounding atmosphere of the plant, all filler (power) material will be fed to the Banbury mixer using fully enclosed material feeding systems with the latest controls on material weighing and recipe controls. GRIs Mixing Plant will be operated by highly experienced mixing experts who are well-versed in the latest techniques and technologies, to ensure high-quality mixing and optimum output.
