INDIANAPOLIS — The Indy Racing League issued a statement late last week announcing that the league has ended discussions with Champ Car World Series regarding the possible union of the two groups.
In a discussion first initiated by Roger Penske, ownership representatives of Champ Car World Series and the Indy Racing League met with Penske to explore a possible unification of the two groups.
In its statement, IRL said that while both sides agree that one open wheel series is the optimal situation, the time is not right for further discussion of unification. “Both parties appreciate the efforts of Mr. Penske, and both parties believe that each has a better understanding of where common ground exists,” the IRL stated.
No more meetings are planned and both series are moving forward with their future plans, according to the IRL.
