Brembo Brakes Featured On Mustang Mach-E GT

This lightweight low drag caliper distinguishes both the GT and GT Performance Edition.

Brembo announced it will supply the fixed aluminum brake calipers as the stopping partner of choice for the all-electric Ford Mustang Mach-E GT and GT Performance Edition.

Brembo’s Flexira front brake calipers will be fitted on the Mach-E GT and GT Performance Edition. Brembo also supplies Flexira calipers for the battery powered Ford Mustang Mach-E. The new GT Performance Edition brake system will be distinguished by iconic Brembo red calipers with the Brembo logo.

The Flexira caliper is specially engineered to fit vehicles with smaller wheel profiles, such as compact cars and SUVs (particularly EVs) for improved rolling resistance. The caliper is designed for use in tight spaces while maintaining the high performance and functionality, typical of a Brembo fixed caliper.

The brake system works in concert with the Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition’s MagneRide Damping System contributing to excellent stopping power, reduced rolling resistance for increased range and a comfortable driving experience.

“We are glad to collaborate with Ford Motor Company on the next Mustang Mach-E model,” said Dan Sandberg, Brembo North America president and CEO. “The all-aluminum red Brembo Flexira caliper will show nicely through the Mach-E’s impressive 20-inch machined-face aluminum wheels.

“The Flexira offers significant reduction in mass compared to typical cast iron floating calipers. This significant reduction of the vehicle’s unsprung weight combined with the low drag advantage of the caliper design contributes to increased battery life by maximizing the vehicle’s dynamic efficiency through a reduction in rolling resistance. In addition, the Brembo Flexira caliper will thrive under-foot of spirited drivers when going from 0-60 in 3.5-seconds with the GT Performance Edition.”

The Brembo compact Flexira caliper is a four-piston caliper with 44 mm diameter pistons paired with Brembo 385-millimeter ventilated rotors. The Brembo supplied brake pads meet the 2021 and future 2025 California and Washington regulations prohibiting the use of copper in brake pads and have a 78 cm2 surface. The aluminum Flexira caliper is manufactured using Brembo’s gravity cast technology. Once the aluminum “shell” is cast, steel inserts or “sleeves” are added which increase the mechanical strength of the overall component and reduce the axial bulk of the caliper. These cylindrical inserts can be seen on the front surface of the calipers where the logo is applied.

The Brembo and Ford relationship dates back to the 1996 when Brembo supplied the front brake discs for the Mustang Cobra. Fast forward to 2000 when Brembo calipers and discs adorned the Mustang Cobra R. Currently Brembo brakes stop the Mustang Mach 1, Shelby GT and Shelby GT500. Brembo carbon brakes are on the Ford GT and Mk II super car and its race bred brethren the Le Mans winning Ford GT race cars that posted 19 wins and 23 pole positions.
