A new survey published in the Wall Street Journal online found that 99 percent of senior executives at larger companies use the Internet at work.

Beck/Arnley Establishes Marketing Advisory Council

Beck/Arnley has established a special Marketing Advisory Council to assist with future product, marketing and communication efforts. The new Marketing Advisory Council will include top Beck/Arnley sales and marketing personnel, associates from its marketing agencies and select members of its customer base. The council will meet twice a year to examine issues and current technology in an effort to improve its customers’ businesses, maximize marketing tools and provide what it called “cutting edge solutions” to industry issues.

Automotive Communications Council Elects Officers and Board

The Automotive Communications Council (ACC) elected new officers and members to its board of governors at its recent conference in Hollywood, Fla. Nearly 40 members attended the conference held at the Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa near Miami Beach. Attendees heard presentations on a range of topics including ad effectiveness and strategic aftermarket branding.

Exide Sponsors New NASCAR Radio Program

Exide Technologies is expanding its relationship with NASCAR through a new national radio program. Exide, which markets “The Official Battery of NASCAR,” is one of three sponsors of NASCAR Performance Live, a new weekly radio program for NASCAR fans. Created by NASCAR Automotive Aftermarket, the program is a live, one-hour talk show, airing Wednesdays from 7 to 8 p.m. on the national satellite radio XM channel 144 and on MRN radio affiliates.

TIA Reaches Membership Milestone

The Tire Industry Association (TIA) has reached a new milestone as its membership has grown to 5,113 members. TIA membership climbed over the 5,000 mark with the addition of the Independent Tire Dealers Group (ITDG). With headquarters in Juno, Fla., ITDG is a marketing group comprised of 90 independent tire and wheel dealers. ITDG has 260 locations in California, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, Montana, New Mexico and Hawaii.

American Products Co. to be Featured Tonight on New TLC Show Overhaulin’

American Products Company (APC), a leading automotive aftermarket manufacturer of performance and accessory products, will be featured tonight, Tuesday, May 25, on an episode of the new TLC cable channel series “Overhaulin’.” Hosted by legendary fabricator Chip Foose, the show dupes unsuspecting vehicle owners by surreptitiously removing their vehicles and tricking them out without their knowledge. The vehicle is then returned to its owner during a surprise “reveal” in a completely modified, tricked, tuned and transformed configuration.

ASA Offers New Electronic Service Information Course for Collision Repair Professionals

The Automotive Service Association (ASA) has created a new educational seminar to address information availability issues for collision repair professionals. The new three-hour seminar, “Electronic Service Information in a Collision Repair Facility,” presents automobile manufacturers’ collision repair information now available on the Internet. The course will be taught at several events this year, including the International Autobody Congress and Exposition (NACE) on Nov. 5 in Las Vegas.

John Kerry Wants Timken, Union to Talk

Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry on Thursday asked President Bush to help settle the dispute that threatens to close Timken’s three bearings plants in Canton, Ohio. The Canton Industrial Bearing Complex includes the plant where the president promoted his tax-cut plan last year. Kerry said Bush should urge the Timken Co. and the United Steelworkers of America Local 1123 to accept a federal mediator to help settle their disagreement.

Jasper Engines & Transmissions to Purchase Remanufacturing Facility

Jasper Engines & Transmissions has purchased the assets of a former remanufacturer of gas and diesel engines. A letter of intent has been signed to purchase the 83,000-square-foot engine remanufacturing plant in Willow Springs, Mo. The plant, located approximately 60 miles east of Springfield, has been closed since December of 2003. Jasper plans to restart the plant by July 5th, producing 40 to 45 gas engines a day, and will expand into producing transmissions.

Ira Davis Joins ARI

Ira Davis has joined ARI as vice president of purchasing and logistics. Davis brings broad experience in purchasing, remanufacturing and distribution to ARI. He comes from Forecast Products where he served as vice president, general manager for the company, with a focus on importing and distribution of automotive components, since 2002. Prior to that assignment, he worked with Beck/Arnley from 1976 to 2001.
