LAS VEGAS — Rusty Bishop, CEO, Federated Auto Parts Distributors based in Staunton, Va., was honored Sunday with the AWDA 2009 Pursuit of Excellence Award. Established in 1983, this award is given annually to a member of AWDA in recognition of excellence in business performance and support for AWDA and its ideals. Larry Northup, AWDA’s staff liaison, presented the award on behalf of AWDA at the association’s 2009 Annual Conference.

Rusty Bishop began his career in the aftermarket 36 years ago with Fisher Auto Parts. During his time at Fisher he worked in warehouse and jobber store management and served as a director of the company. In 1985, he worked closely with Art Fisher in establishing a new program distribution group, Federated Auto Parts Distributors, which he now heads.

Throughout his career Bishop has held multiple leadership positions in the aftermarket including service on the ASIA, AAIA and AWDA boards of directors as well as numerous committees and task forces. In 2006, Bishop entered the AWDA chairs and was elected chairman for the 2008-’09 term.

“Rusty leads one of the premier aftermarket parts groups in the country, and for over 36 years, has shown unlimited dedication to our industry,” said Tim Trudnowski, Automotive Jobbers Supply, Spokane, Wash.

In presenting the award, Northup noted numerous instances where Bishop’s personal leadership as AWDA chairman was brought to bear for the good of the association and the industry.

Northup added, “I can tell you without reservation that it has been a tremendous honor and pleasure to look so closely with a man who so embodies the standards established for this award.”
