It is no surprise that industry veteran Larry Pavey’s Executive Interview was the most highly read article on aftermarketNews (AMN) this week. After 30-plus years working both in aftermarket manufacturing and distribution, Pavey is an acute observer of the industry and shared a number of excellent insights with AMN in the interview. Pavey currently serves as senior advisor to Federated Auto Parts.
There were other popular news items on AMN this week that also involved Federated. On Monday we announced that Fisher Auto Parts, founding member of Federated Auto Parts, merged with Hayden’s Auto Supply. Hayden’s Auto Supply, headquartered in Leonardtown, MD, was founded in 1962 by Frank Hayden and joined the Federated Auto Parts programmed distribution group in 1999. They now join with Fisher Auto Parts, which was ranked as the industry’s eighth largest distributor and has approximately 300 locations, 19 in Maryland.
On the manufacturing side, AMN readers were interested to learn that Delphi has filed more than 700 lawsuits against its suppliers. The Troy, MI-based manufacturer is seeking payment from suppliers as a backup if its bankruptcy exit plan fails. Delphi told a U.S. Bankruptcy Court in August that it could file more than 11,000 suits seeking as much as $5.8 billion.
Another major manufacturer working its way out of Chapter 11 was in the news this week as well. AutoBeatDaily reported that the federal bankruptcy judge handling Federal-Mogul’s Chapter 11 case may overrule remaining objections and approve the company’s reorganization plan. If this happens, Federal-Mogul could emerge from bankruptcy by the end of the year.
Rounding out our top five news stories this week was the announcement that National Pronto Association presented annual vendor awards at its recent Fall Conference held late last month in Nashville, TN. Among the winner’s in Pronto’s 2007 Vendor Awards were: Bosch, Goodyear, Tenneco, Eastern Industries, CARDONE and Federal-Mogul.
