Readers of aftermarketNews this week showed an overwhelming interest in learning more about the new top exec at Pep Boys. On Wednesday, the Philadelphia-based retailer announced that Jeffrey Rachor has joined the company as its new president and CEO. Rachor comes to Pep Boys from Sonic Automotive, one of the nation’s largest automotive dealership chains, where he served as president and COO.

Another highly read story on aftermarketNews this week reported that Dana’s former engine hard parts business is now owned by MAHLE. Germany-based MAHLE bought the operations, which includes the Perfect Circle, Clevite and Glacier Vandervell brands, for approximately $97 million. The sale also includes exclusive distribution rights to Dana’s retained Victor Reinz branded products in the independent aftermarket in the United States and Canada.

Turning to the OE side of the industry, a report headlined “Big Three or Detroit Three?” garnered a lot of interest this week. The article takes a comprehensive look at the changes in the automotive industry this past year, both on a national and international level.

On Thursday, readers showed a high level of interest in the new strategic partnership between ACCC and CARQUEST. Dubbed “MaxPak,” the new marketing partnership will include training and education and an insurance offering, among other services. Set to launch Apr. 1, MaxPak will consist of two primary elements: ACCC University and a range of marketing and promotion offerings. Marketing and promotion elements of MaxPak include 19 elements – preferred discount cards for service tech purchases at CARQUEST, a Carfax service link, customer satisfaction mail-back mirror hangers, Enterprise rental car program for loaner cars and Identifix online diagnostic tool access, to name a few.
