WABCO Wins New Brake Actuator Business

Company leverages engineering in India and factory in Thailand to help major European truck maker further expand in Southeast Asia.

BRUSSELS, Belgium – WABCO Holdings Inc. has been awarded a new long-term agreement by a major manufacturer of commercial vehicles headquartered in Europe. WABCO will supply brake actuator technologies for a new truck platform that will enter into new markets in Southeast Asia. Series production is expected to begin in 2016 at the customer’s plant in Thailand.

Designed by WABCO engineers in India, these brake actuators have been optimally adapted for the customer’s local product applications in the region of Southeast Asia. In addition, WABCO engineers in India have successfully addressed regulations requiring locally produced content in this region.

At the same time, WABCO will supply products from its factory in Rayong, Thailand. Opened in 2013, it is WABCO’s newest factory within its global manufacturing network in 11 countries on four continents. Even though newly inaugurated, WABCO’s factory in Rayong already delivers superlative quality through zero defects for every million parts produced.

“This new long-term contract demonstrates how we have further leveraged the global power of WABCO through outstanding engineering and design capabilities in India combined with newly established world-class manufacturing capacity located in Thailand,” said Leon Liu, WABCO president, Truck, Bus & Car Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) Division. “What differentiates WABCO is the power of our globalization and, as anticipated, we are helping a major European commercial vehicle maker to further expand its success in Southeast Asia.”

Under the extension of an existing long-term agreement, WABCO’s factory in Rayong will continue through 2021 to equip the customer’s standardized medium- and heavy-duty truck platform, which is manufactured at its plants in Thailand, India and China.
