This week, thousands of aftermarket executives converged upon the city of Las Vegas for Automotive Aftermarket Industry Week. And, it’s no surprise that the week yielded a lot of great news. Here are a few of the highlights.
AMN readers were most interested to learn about yesterday’s news from Uni-Select, which announced that it has acquired Tier Parts Warehouse and Hallstead Auto Parts. On a far less positive note, Dura Automotive’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing also caught many readers’ attention. On Oct. 30, Dura, along with its U.S. and Canadian subsidiaries, filed for protection under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. According to BankruptcyData.com, this is the third largest bankruptcy filing this year. The Boston-based website published by New Generation Research, Inc., said Dura ’ s October 30th bankruptcy filing also represents the seventh largest automotive parts manufacturer filing of all time. To date, the largest automotive parts manufacturer to file for Chapter 11 was Delphi Corp., which listed $16,593,000,000 in assets at the time of its October 8, 2005 filing.
Readers this week were also very interested to read about the new Raybestos product line launched by Affinia Under Vehicle Group this week at AAPEX. The new consolidated Raybestos brand brake product line provides increased application coverage, a competitive pricing structure and a simplified selection process for the company’s friction, rotors and hydraulic products, according to the company. Affinia reduced the number of SKUs in the product line and also now offers a cross referenced numbering system for a simpler product selection process. The new product packaging also aids in the selection process, featuring color coded packaging black for Advanced Technology, blue for Professional Grade, and red for Service Grade. The new packaging maintains the recognizable Raybestos brand brakes logo and mark of distinction on each pad set.
