Coming in as the most highly read AMN news story this week was Federal-Mogul’s announcement of its new complete brake pad system . The Wagner EDGE brake pad system is specifically engineered for what consumers want lighter and leaner braking. Additional news of Federal-Mogul’s plan to emerge from bankruptcy protection was also of interest to readers. Ford Motor Co., DaimlerChrysler Corp. and a Volkswagen AG unit are raising objections to the company’s reorganization plan. The three carmakers filed objections regarding Federal-Mogul’s plan to shed liability for as much as $9.41 billion in death and injury claims involving asbestos.
Another highly read story this week on AMN was O’Reilly’s announcement to leave the Alliance after almost 30 years of affiliation. According to David O’Reilly, chairman of O’Reilly parts, the decision to separate was because it had become difficult for the company to maintain p rod uct line compliance. In conjunction with that news, O’Reilly announced its new jobber program, Parts City Auto Parts. The program has been created for the independent jobber customers of O’Reilly/Ozark Automotive.
AMN readers also showed interest in the launch of a new Monroe billboard campaign. The new campaign is aimed at consumer safety, (and you could argue, hygiene) which compares changing your underwear daily with changing your shocks every 50,000 miles.
In personnel news, the appointment of Shirley Hooper to the position of director of sales and marketing, Egge Machine Co ., gained a lot of attention from AMN readers. Hooper brings 14 years of experience to her new role at Egge.
It’s no surprise that the AMN audience was also interested in learning more about Japanese automakers and their position as the most productive automakers in North America . Toyota , Nissan and Honda topped the list as the most productive, but U.S. automakers are tightening the gap.
