Heavy Duty Dialogue 2006 to Examine EPA, NHTSA Regulations

Heavy Duty Dialogue 2006 is timed to give heavy duty suppliers the opportunity to discuss important industry topics, such as regulations from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) scheduled to go into effect in 2007. The biennial conference, organized by the Heavy Duty Manufacturers Association (HDMA), is set for Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 6-7, 2006, at the Atlanta Airport Hilton & Towers at Atlanta’s Hartsfield Airport.

World-leading automotive parts and components supplier Robert Bosch GmbH plans to cash in on China’s fast-growing auto sector by quadrupling its sales in the nation by 2012. The company plans to lift its sales to $6 billion by 2012 from last year’s $1.56 billion.

ArvinMeritor Receives $1.7 Million Grant to Develop Exhaust Emissions Technology

ArvinMeritor has been awarded a $1.7 million grant from the Indiana 21st Century Research and Development Fund. The grant will assist in the development of the company’s Plasma Fuel Reformer exhaust emissions technology, which is being developed at the company’s Columbus, Ind., Emissions Technical Center. Purdue University will collaborate with ArvinMeritor to improve fuel spray mixing and combustion processes to help complete the final development of the plasma fuel reformer.

Jasper Engines & Transmissions to Purchase Remanufacturing Facility

Jasper Engines & Transmissions has purchased the assets of a former remanufacturer of gas and diesel engines. A letter of intent has been signed to purchase the 83,000-square-foot engine remanufacturing plant in Willow Springs, Mo. The plant, located approximately 60 miles east of Springfield, has been closed since December of 2003. Jasper plans to restart the plant by July 5th, producing 40 to 45 gas engines a day, and will expand into producing transmissions.

David Caracci, newly elected chairman of the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association’s (AAIA) Board of Directors, has outlined his vision for the future of the aftermarket. In a statement issued late last week, Caracci said he has a “positive vision for the aftermarket as we work together to meet the challenges and potential of today and tomorrow.” He is calling for industry-wide involvement and participation to assure a “robust, healthy future for our industry.”
