Patrick (Pat) Cavanagh will become the next president and CEO of Williams Controls. Cavanaugh will step into the position on Oct. 4. He succeeds current president, CEO and board chairman, Gene Goodson, who plans to retire. Goodson will remain chairman of the board.

As the SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund celebrates its 20th year of giving, the association has announced it awarded students a record number of scholarships this year. Seventy-five students preparing for careers in the automotive industry received individual awards of up to $4,000, for a total of $110,000 in scholarships.

Federal-Mogul President and CEO Charles “Chip” McClure has left the company to become the new chairman, CEO and president of Troy, Mich.-based ArvinMeritor. McClure has served as president of Federal-Mogul since 2001 and as CEO since 2003. Robert (Steve) Miller, Jr., a non-executive chairman of Federal-Mogul’s board of directors, has been appointed interim CEO of the company.

Wolfgang Benz has been named president and CEO – NAFTA Aftermarket for Hella North America. In this new role, Benz will direct Hella’s North American aftermarket business. Benz joined Hella KG in 1995 as managing director of Hella Aftermarket Operations for the U.K. and Ireland. His automotive career began in 1967 at Robert Bosch GmbH in Stuttgart- Schillerhoehe, Germany, where he served as a sales manager and later export product manager.

Federal-Mogul Announces Heavy Duty Sales Reorganization

Federal-Mogul has announced a realignment of the heavy duty aftermarket sales organization. Don Reimondo, vice president of distribution and heavy duty sales, said that William Mirth has been appointed to the position of regional sales manager, heavy duty West. This position will report directly to Reimondo. Mirth will continue to have national responsibility for FP diesel sales.

Independent Truck Drivers Go On Strike

Upset over wages, fuel costs and anti-union laws, hundreds of independent truckers went on strike at several U.S. ports Monday, slowing the movement of cargo containers that can hold everything from furniture to electronics to frozen food. Nationwide independent truckers, who get paid by the load, had called for a strike from Monday to Sunday. It was unclear how many truckers went on strike.
