ASA Calls for Support of AHP Legislation

The Automotive Service Association (ASA) is asking automotive repairers to help support Association Healthcare Plans (AHP) legislation that allows associations to band together to purchase health care insurance for employees. The AHP legislation, H.R. 660, has passed the U.S. House of Representatives and is supported by President George W. Bush, but the U.S. Senate has not acted on its companion legislation, S. 545. With the Senate set to adjourn on Oct. 1, ASA is encouraging repairers to contact their senators and ask them to support and co-sponsor S. 545.

Right to Repair Act Sponsors Grow to 90

Another legislator has added his name to the growing list of proponents for the Motor Vehicle Owners’ Right to Repair Act, H.R. 2735. Rep. John P. Gingrey, R-Ga., has agreed to support the bill, taking the total number of cosponsors to 90. The legislation would ensure that the independent aftermarket has affordable and effective access to the service information and tools needed to compete with new car dealers for the repair of late model vehicles.

Florida Senate Committee Passes Insurer-Owned Repair Facility Legislation

By a vote of 8 to 1, the Florida Senate Committee on Banking and Insurance has passed Senate Bill 2692, which prohibits insurer-owned shops in the state of Florida.

NARSA Joins AAPEX, New Heat and Transfer & Mobile A/C Section to Be Established

The National Automotive Radiator Service Association (NARSA) has forged an agreement with the sponsoring associations of Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo (AAPEX) for the establishment of a new Heat Transfer & Mobile A/C Section at the 2004 AAPEX show. The announcement was made today at the 51st Annual NARSA Convention & Tradeshow in Nashville, Tenn.

AWDA Names Larry Northup to Direct Segment at AAIA

The Automotive Warehouse Distributors Association (AWDA) has appointed Larry Northup to direct its day-to-day operations, as a segment of the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA). AWDA joined forces with AAIA in January 2004. Northup, who currently serves as senior director of segment management at AAIA, immediately assumes the role of AWDA liaison. Working closely with the AWDA volunteer leadership and AAIA’s professional staff, he will be responsible for coordinating the segment’s membership marketing and recruitment activities, meetings and conferences, including the annual one-on-one meetings, government relations and communications.
