American Tire Distributors to Offer Continental Tires

Continental Tire North America (CTNA) and American Tire Distributors Inc. (ATD) announced July 29 that ATD will begin selling Continental and General brand tires through its national network of distribution centers beginning in August 2004.

USWA Files Complaint Against Continental Tire North America

The United Steelworkers of America (USWA) filed a formal complaint July 19 with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) against Continental Tire North America (CTNA) claiming its plan to end production at its Mayfield, Ky., plant “is illegal and should be halted by the federal government.”

Continental Tire Suspends Tire Production at Mayfield Plant

Today, Continental Tire North America (CTNA), reported that it will suspend tire production at its Mayfield, Ky., plant indefinitely. The plant will cease operations by December 31, however, there are no plans to close the facility. The company will continue to use the facility for mixing and some warehousing operations. Approximately 715 hourly and 112 salary positions will be eliminated as a result of CTNA’s decision.

Pep Boys Chooses Continental Tire for Name-Brand Push

Pep Boys has selected Continental Tire to supply tires for the introduction of its name-brand tires. Pep Boys will begin selling Continental and General tires starting Sunday, May 16 at its network of nearly 600 stores. The addition of name-brand tires puts Pep Boys in a position to compete for a share of the $24 billion replacement tire business in the U.S.

Continental Tire to Reduce Production at Mayfield, Ky., Plant

Continental Tire North America, Inc. (CTNA) will reduce tire production at its Mayfield, Ky., plant, from 10,900 tires a day to 7,300, starting in July. The tiremaker has advised its employees and the local union that this action will include a workforce reduction of 200 hourly employees. CTNA said it is working with the local union to ease the transition for affected employees.

Continental Tire Announces Price Increase

Effective June 1, Continental Tire North America (CTNA) will raise prices on Continental, General, Semperit and private brand passenger, light truck, medium truck and OTR tires. CTNA made the announcement in a letter to dealers earlier this week.
