American Tire Distributors to Offer Continental Tires

Continental Tire North America (CTNA) and American Tire Distributors Inc. (ATD) announced July 29 that ATD will begin selling Continental and General brand tires through its national network of distribution centers beginning in August 2004.

CHARLOTTE, NC — Continental Tire North America (CTNA) and American Tire Distributors Inc. (ATD) announced July 29 that ATD will begin selling Continental and General brand tires through its national network of distribution centers beginning in August 2004.

Jim Seidel, director passenger and light truck dealer sales for CTNA said, “We’re pleased to be associated with American Tire Distributors and excited about our new business relationship. We’re proud that virtually all leading car companies world-wide use original equipment tires made by Continental, and based on our strong OE position, our ATD partnership provides an excellent opportunity to expand our replacement tire business in the U.S.”

Phil Marrett, ATD’s senior vice president of sales and marketing, explained why CTNA’s OE presence was such an important factor for American Tire Distributors. “We know that a high percentage of new vehicle owners replace their tires with the OE brand. CTNA has established a very strong OE presence for both the Continental and General brands, which translates to consumers requesting the brand at the dealerships we service. By offering the Continental and General brands, ATD will enhance our service level to our dealer customers.”

American Tire Distributors is one of the nation’s largest independent suppliers of tires to the replacement tire market. The company offers a selection of tires, wheels, equipment and related products and value-added services, and employs over 2,000 people across its nationwide distribution center network, including 200 people in its Charlotte-area field support center and distribution centers.
