AAPEX Now Accepting Entries for New Packaging Showcase

Entries are now being accepted for the New Packaging Showcase at the 2006 Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo (AAPEX), Tuesday, Oct. 31 – Thursday, Nov. 2, in Las Vegas. Exhibitors are encouraged to participate and gain added exposure and recognition for their innovative packaging designs and concepts.

Sign Up Now for UofA’s Leadership 2.0 Program

The University of the Aftermarket has developed an executive leadership education program for the automotive aftermarket industry. Leadership 2.0 has been designed to be a stimulating and intensive two-week learning experience based on the theories and practical application of leadership principals. Leadership 2.0 consists of two five-day sessions, as well as a team project due at the start of the second session in April 2007. The top two teams will have the opportunity to “battle it out” at the Global Automotive Aftermarket Symposium in May 2007.

Car Care Council Women’s Board Celebrates 10 Years

The Car Care Council Women’s Board is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. Formed in 1996 by several women who saw a need for a different perspective on the automotive aftermarket, the group understood that women motorists didn’t need different information on automotive maintenance than men; they just needed it to be targeted more directly to them. They also felt that opportunities for women in the industry needed to be brought to the forefront. Women needed to be encouraged to enter the various areas of the automotive industry, whether it was parts, service or support. For the most part, maintenance and repair information had gone through traditional channels of automotive sections and publications whose readership was primarily male. And, when it came to careers in the industry, many young women didn’t often consider that automotive is a lucrative, accessible and interesting field.

Lonnie Mayne to Join Affinia Group

Heavy-duty and retail sales specialist Lonnie Mayne has accepted a position with Affinia Group Inc. as vice president of special markets, effective April 24. Mayne comes to Affinia from No. 1 International (Hi-Tech), where he held the position of president of the Factory Engineering Group. Formerly, Mayne served as national sales manager for Timken Corp. and as western regional sales manager for Federal-Mogul. In his past experience, he has successfully developed sales, marketing and organizational strategies designed to build relationships with customers, create an operational structure for high performing sales teams and increase overall sales.

The Car Care Council Women’s Board wants reminds the industry that it’s not too late to sponsor 2006 Women’s Board activities. “Donations to the Women’s Board will help us achieve our goals of encouraging women to become active vehicle maintainers and promoting career opportunities for women in the automotive parts and service industry,” said Katie Noga, president of the Car Care Council Women’s Board.

Bob Anderson Named Beck/Arnley Vice President Product Management

Robert (Bob) Anderson has been promoted to vice president of product management for Beck/Arnley. In his new position, Anderson will be responsible for product management, sourcing, pricing and purchasing. Anderson began his career in the automotive aftermarket in 1984, when he joined McCord Gaskets as a product specialist and continued in the role with Clevite Engine Parts when the two companies merged. He was promoted to senior product specialist in 1985, and then to product manager in 1986.

Delphi Makes Personnel Changes in Aftermarket Division

Delphi recently announced two personnel moves for Delphi Product & Service Solutions, the company’s aftermarket division. Frank Ofiero was named director of sales & marketing, service operations. Julie Pongrac has been appointed global marketing manager responsible for leading the product, price and sales strategy, and managing the thermal, vehicle electronics, undercar and bulk product managers.

Longtime Federal-Mogul Exec Don Reimondo Joins Affinia

Aftermarket veteran Don Reimondo has joined Affinia as senior vice president of customer relationship management. His appointment was effective January 9. Prior to joining Affinia, Reimondo served as vice president of global distribution, inventory and logistics for Federal-Mogul Corp.
