Ashland Inc., and its Valvoline division, have been awarded $5 million in damages from Windward Petroleum Inc. and its affiliate, Commercial Distributing Inc., in an Agreed Final Judgment issued by the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky.

According to a report from the Lexington, KY, office of Knight-Ridder Newspapers, the Valvoline division of Ashland Inc. has acquired Buis Oil. Buis, based in Noblesville, IN, was founded in 1985. The company is one of many distributors of Valvoline products across the U.S.

2006 Arthur B. Modine Scholars Program Winners Announced

Modine Manufacturing Co. has announced the 2006 recipients of the Arthur B. Modine Scholars program, funded by the Modine Manufacturing Co. Charity Foundation. The scholarships are named after the engineer and inventor who founded Modine 90 years ago, Arthur B. Modine. These scholarships are available to children of full-time Modine employees at the corporate headquarters in Racine and at any of the 20 manufacturing facilities or Modine subsidiaries in the United States. The scholarships range from $1,000 to $2,500 per year for four years.

Ray Evernham Speaks at Valvapoolza

Ronald “Chip” Huffman has joined Ashland Inc. as retail marketing manager for Valvoline’s new channels group, according to Bob Craycraft, senior vice president and general manager, retail business. In this new position, Huffman will help develop the new channels business, a key strategic initiative for Valvoline. The new channels market includes non-traditional retailers such as convenience stores, hardware and wholesale clubs. Huffman’s role involves marketing, promotional development and some sales for the group. Based in Lexington, KY, he will report to Greg David, vice president, retail and warehouse distributor sales.
