SEMA Awards More Than $130,000 in Scholarships

The Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) is awarding 93 students more than $130,000 in scholarships for the 2008-2009 academic year. The SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund began awarding scholarships to students pursuing careers in the automotive industry in 1984. As a benefit of SEMA membership, SEMA also presented the Loan Forgiveness Scholarship Award to qualified graduates with outstanding student loans, who have worked at a SEMA member company for at least one year.

IndyCar Series Takes to the Gold Coast this Fall

The IndyCar Series will travel to Surfers Paradise, Australia, for the Gold Coast Indy 300 on Oct. 26, the first IndyCar Series event in the country. The 2.75-mile, 14-turn street circuit in Queensland has hosted Champ Car and CART events since 1991. Following the event at Surfers Paradise, the IndyCar Series will continue its post-season celebration with a championship banquet in Las Vegas.

Hayes Lemmerz International has promoted Mark Brebberman, 47, to vice president and chief financial officer. Brebberman succeeds James Yost, who left the company in May. Brebberman originally joined Hayes Lemmerz in December 2001 as controller for the company’s North American Wheel Group Business Unit. He was promoted to corporate controller, operations and corporate controller in April 2004 and July 2007, respectively.

IndyCar Series Holds Automotive Manufacturer Round-table to Discuss New Specs, Encourage More Participation

With the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on the cusp of celebrating two significant centennials, and the unification of open-wheel racing in North America complete, the IndyCar Series has announced plans to define its next generation of technical competition rules with the ultimate goal of encouraging new manufacturer participation within the series. An ‘IndyCar Automotive Manufacturers Round-table’ targeting senior level automotive executives will be held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in late June to openly discuss future IndyCar Series concepts. The series has targeted introduction of new specifications for the 2011 season, the 100th anniversary of the first Indianapolis 500-Mile Race with a desire for multiple automobile manufacturer participation.
