General Motors managed to squeeze into the top 10 companies listed on Fortune magazine’s Global 500 list – the magazine’s annual ranking of the world’s largest corporations. While GM, listed at No. 9, ranked higher than Daimler (No. 11) and Ford (No. 13), it was still trumped by Toyota Motor Co. (No. 5), one of several foreign automakers that has seen a spike in sales the past few years as consumer interest in more fuel-efficient, ‘eco-friendly’ vehicles grows.
SPX Named to Fortune’s America’s Most Admired Companies List
SPX Corp. has been named to Fortune magazine’s America’s Most Admired Companies 2008, the widely respected and influential annual scorecard recognizing corporate excellence. SPX ranked fifth in the Electronics industry category, behind General Electric, Emerson, Sony and Siemens (in that order) with an overall score of 6.33. The rankings appear in the March 17 issue of Fortune, which will be on newsstands March 10, and are currently available online at www.fortune.com.
Fortune Ranks Johnson Controls Number-One for Third Consecutive Year
Johnson Controls has earned Fortune Magazine’s top ranking on its list of America’s Most Admired Companies. This is the third consecutive year Johnson Controls has received the award. Fortune Magazine’s America’s Most Admired Companies list is based on surveys conducted by the Hay Group, which asks more than 3,700 industry experts to pick 10 companies that excel in areas defined by a specific set of criteria. Johnson Controls placed first in the category of Motor Vehicle Parts.
