BASF Announces 2005 Fourth Quarter Automotive Refinish Training Schedule

BASF’s Automotive Refinish business has issued its North American training schedule for the fourth quarter of 2005. Courses will be conducted at 10 training facilities in the United States and Canada, with nine of the locations offering OEM certification training. French-language courses are offered in the Montreal facility.

BASF Facility Exceeds One Million Hours of Safe Operation

BASF’s Coatings Technical Support Center in Whitehouse, Ohio, recently marked more than one million hours of operation without a recordable injury or work-related illness. According to Ken Perry, technical director, BASF Automotive Refinish, one million hours represents more than three and a half years of continuous operation at the site, which employs approximately 140 people.

BASF to Acquire Full Ownership of Coating Joint Venture from Akzo Nobel

BASF AG has reportedly signed an agreement to acquire full ownership of an automotive coating joint venture it owns with Akzo Nobel. The business, called BASF Akzo Nobel (BAN) will be merged with BASF’s Sydney-based coatings unit BASF Coatings Pty Ltd with BAN on July 1.

BASF and Shell to Sell Their Stakes in Basell

BASF and Shell Chemicals announced today they will sell their 50-50 joint venture, Basell, to a consortium led by New York-based Access Industries and The Chatterjee Group, a privately-held investment firm. Basell is the world’s largest producer of polypropylene and advanced polyolefins used in a wide number of applications, including in the packaging and automotive industries and for consumer goods.

Big Three Automakers Renew Approval of BASF Refinish Coatings

DaimlerChrysler, Ford Motor Co. and General Motors Corp. have renewed their approvals of BASF’s refinish systems for warrantied repairs. The approvals were granted following a series of rigorous and comprehensive technical evaluations at BASF’s Southfield, Mich., site, according to BASF.
