Goodyear Releases 2003 Financial Results

Despite record sales of $15.1 billion and some bottom-line improvements, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. reported a full-year 2003 net loss of $802.1 million or $4.58 per share. The 2003 net loss also included a -$56.2 million restatement for the year, part of a total of $164.8 million in additional net losses over the 1997-2003 period.

Goodyear Files Antitrust Lawsuit for Price Fixing

Goodyear Tire & Rubber has filed an antitrust lawsuit against suppliers of Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) alleging price fixing and anti-competitive conduct in violation of the federal Sherman Act antitrust laws. EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) is a synthetic rubber that is used in rubber-containing products to improve their strength, and EPDM has excellent resistance to heat, oxidation, ozone and weather aging due to its stable, saturated polymer structure. Goodyear uses EPDM in tires, hoses and belts, for example.
