New Consumer Behavior and Vehicle Condition Data to be Reported at AAPEX

Interested in learning if consumers are doing more maintenance because of higher gas prices, or whether protecting the environment is a motivator to take better care of their vehicles? All new survey results of consumer attitudes and behavior, as well as complete results of vehicle inspections during April and October Car Care Month events, will be part of a special education session hosted by the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA) during AAPEX. The session will be held from 8 to 9 am on Thursday, Nov. 1, in room 203 of the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas.

Register Your Fall Car Care Month Vehicle Check-Up Event at the Car Care Council Website

In recognition of Fall Car Care Month in October, organizations are encouraged to register their vehicle check-up events on the Car Care Council’s website at www.carcare.org to help consumers locate an event in their area. Fall Car Care Month vehicle check-up events are conducted nationwide by independent repair shops and auto parts stores, as well as vocational schools.

2006 Car Care Aware Events Revealed Consumer Neglect of Vehicles

Results of vehicle check-up events held during Car Care Aware Fairs across the country in April and October 2006 revealed that nearly nine out of 10 vehicles need service or parts. According to the Car Care Council, this underscores the huge untapped DIY and DIFM sales opportunities for the automotive aftermarket. The unsatisfactory condition of vehicles also reinforces the continued need for consumer education about the benefits of regular vehicle care, maintenance and repair, says the council.

California Publishes Smog Check Certification Policy For Specially Constructed Vehicles

The California Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) has published its policy for Smog Check certification of specially constructed vehicles. The publication was prompted by discussions with SEMA, the Specialty Equipment Market Association, and officials with the state Attorney General’s office.

ASA, ASA-Washington Ask Repairers to Oppose Washington Hybrid Vehicle Legislation

The Automotive Service Association (ASA) and its Washington state affiliate, ASA-Washington, have issued a statement asking independent repair shop owners in Washington to contact their state senators and representatives to request that they oppose Senate Bill 5397 and House Bill 1397.

2004 National Car Care Month Inspections Show 87 Percent Failure Rate

The Car Care Council has released the results of its annual National Car Care Month inspection campaign, which took place in April. This year’s results showed that 87 percent of the vehicles taking part in the program had at least one component that failed the inspection process. While the numbers dropped from 90 percent to 87 percent this year, these results continue to underscore the need for consumer education, said Rich White, executive director of the Car Care Council.
