The heavy duty brake manufacturing industry supports efforts by National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to reduce the required stopping distance for truck tractors by 20 to 30 percent.

Jinks Receives John F. Cummings Award from Filter Manufacturers Council

Monty Jinks of Purolator Products was awarded the John F. Cummings Award for 2006 by the Filter Manufacturers Council (FMC) on April 2 at the group’s Spring Council meeting in Monterey, CA. FMC is a product group of the Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA). Founded in 1971, FMC represents manufacturers of vehicular and industrial filtration products.

First Year Board Directors Announced for NASTF

Following the news last month that it accepted a proposal from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) to formally manage the organization, the National Automotive Service Task Force (NASTF) has now elected board officers for its first year as a formally managed group. Mary Hutchinson, former executive director of the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation, will become the NASTF manager and report to the NASTF board, MEMA reported.

AAPEX Booth Selection Process Underway After Record Number of Companies Participate in Online Selection Order Drawing

A record 1,744 companies participated in a drawing to determine the booth selection order for the 2006 Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo (AAPEX). The drawing determined the selection order for the online booth selection process which began April 3. AAPEX will take place Tuesday, Oct. 31, through Thursday, Nov. 2, at the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas. The 2006 show promises to be a record-setting event with 470,000-net-square-feet of space sold to date. Due to heavy demand for exhibit space for the 2006 show, AAPEX exhibits this year will occupy the entire Venetian Ballroom as well.

Rep. Dave Camp (R-MI) will be honored by the automotive and heavy-duty supplier industry as the 2006 recipient of the “Joseph M. Magliochetti Industry Champion” award, slated for presentation on Thursday, June 8, at the Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association’s (MEMA) Legislative Summit in Washington, D.C.

Gates will use CoLinx logistics services in all CoLinx locations in the U.S. and Canada. Economic Influence of Auto, Heavy Duty Suppliers Subject of Upcoming Landmark Study

The Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA) announced today it will undertake a landmark study documenting the significant economic influence of automotive and heavy duty suppliers. The association said the study will be supported by never before collected facts and figures that will analyze the economic contribution of suppliers to the nation’s economy and will provide data on both a national level and state-by-state breakdown. The data will result in valuable statistics such as direct and intermediate employment; value of goods shipped; value of goods and services purchased; the percentage of sales suppliers dedicate to engineering, research and development; federal, state and local taxes generated from automotive suppliers; and total compensation for both direct and intermediate employment.
