RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC — Rep. Dave Camp (R-MI) will be honored by the automotive and heavy-duty supplier industry as the 2006 recipient of the “Joseph M. Magliochetti Industry Champion” award, slated for presentation on Thursday, June 8, at the Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association’s (MEMA) Legislative Summit in Washington, D.C.
“Dave Camp has shown steadfast support for Michigan manufacturing, including the supplier industry,” said Bob McKenna, president and CEO of MEMA. “Rep. Camp understands the value and importance of automotive suppliers both to Michigan’s economy and to the national economy.”
“We appreciate Rep. Camp’s work on the Ways and Means Committee on many issues such as tax and trade, pension reform, and health care,” McKenna said. “One example of his role as an advocate for the industry came during debate on the energy bill, when his determination to create tax incentives for the purchase of alternative fuel vehicles ultimately proved successful when the provision was signed into law in 2005,” he added.
McKenna noted that Camp also has been persistent in his efforts to make the research and development tax credit permanent. “Additionally, he has consistently recognized the industry’s need for reliable, affordable raw materials by supporting efforts to expand free trade through free trade agreements and by cosponsoring legislation which would give industrial users standing in cases before the International Trade Commission,” he noted.
MEMA established the Industry Champion award in 2004 in the memory of Joseph M. Magliochetti, who served as the chairman and CEO of Dana Corp. until his death in 2003. The award celebrates and recognizes those who have worked diligently on behalf of automotive parts manufacturers in the United States. Past recipients include Rep. Mike Rogers (R-MI), Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN) and Rep. Joe Knollenberg (R-MI).
