RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC — Monty Jinks of Purolator Products was awarded the John F. Cummings Award for 2006 by the Filter Manufacturers Council (FMC) on April 2 at the group’s Spring Council meeting in Monterey, CA. FMC is a product group of the Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA). Founded in 1971, FMC represents manufacturers of vehicular and industrial filtration products.

“Monty has devoted an inordinate amount of his own personal and professional time to FMC’s processes,” said Jeremy Denton, FMC executive director. “This award shows FMC’s appreciation to Monty and to Purolator Products for the time and energy he has devoted to promoting the automotive industry’s filtration products.”

Jinks has been the chairman of the FMC Catalog committee since 1998 and a member of the committee since the fall of 1994. Jinks revolutionized the committee’s catalog sorting process by creating a new software program to house the catalog data. For the first time, this allowed the input of data prior to a catalog meeting.

OEM part numbers differ dramatically both in individual identification of parts and, more importantly, format. Jinks’ work involved streamlining this process in order to effectively identify redundant entries and properly assess the necessary part numbers and related discrepancies. While many times this meant a simple phone call, it often required meeting with dealerships in order to definitively identify a given product.

“Monty’s vision and tireless efforts during the past eight years saved FMC members significant time and resources and made for extremely efficient meetings,” Denton noted. “In the past, if a member didn’t accurately record every part number discussed, the member’s information was incomplete. Now, a CD complete with all of the cross-reference numbers is available to participants at the close of each committee meeting,” he said.

The Cummings award has not been presented every year, according to Denton. “This award was established to recognize truly outstanding contributions to the automotive industry. It has not been, and will not be, presented annually or at regular intervals, but awarded only when an exceptional recipient is recognized,” he said.
