Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT) was down 8.6% in September 2020, compared to the previous September. This was the smallest shortfall for the month compared to the previous year since the onset of the coronavirus. According the  Office of Highway Policy Information at the U.S. Department of Transportation, the cumulative miles driven for the year is down 14.5% compared to 2019. Reporting on this figure lags by about six weeks, so this number does not reflect any new lockdowns or limits on activity due to the most recent surge.
